Natural Products Discovery Institute Signs First Major Deal
The Natural Products Discovery Institute (NPDI) has signed its first major deal to allow qualified researchers to access the formerly private Merck Natural Products Collection that it received as a donation from the company this past summer. Dr. David Kingston, University Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Virginia Tech, will be the first outside researcher to gain access to this world-class collection of plant natural products. Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center Celebrates 5 Years as an Economic Success Story
The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center, in Doylestown, Pa., is marking its 5th year anniversary as one of the region’s success stories during a tough economy. Today, the Center serves as an important economic driver in the region and over the past five years has replaced the loss of 140 low-tech jobs with 240 new high-tech jobs.

Merck Donates Library to Hepatitis B Foundation’s Research Institute
June 6 – In a public ceremony today, Merck donated its entire “priceless” natural products library, along with an undisclosed grant, to the Institute for Hepatitis and Virus Research, which is the research arm of the Hepatitis B Foundation. Read more.
