The Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County provides a unique and exceptional opportunity to bring scientists together from commercial, academic and nonprofit research organizations to pursue common research themes in an environment conducive to interaction, collaboration and focus.
As home to nonprofit research organizations and commercial biotech start-up companies - the Hepatitis B Foundation and its research institute, the Institute for Hepatitis and Virus Research, Drexel Institute for Biotechnology and Virology Research of Drexel University, and Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania – the Center will stimulate innovative research and serve as a valuable economic driver in the state.
Featured research programs in the Center include proteomics, genomics, molecular biology, drug discovery and early detection of cancer. A common research theme for the nonprofit organizations is the problem of viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and hepatitis C), and liver cancer, the most serious outcome of chronic viral hepatitis infections.
The hope is that through comprehensive Drug Discovery and Biomarker Discovery programs, effective therapies and early detection disease markers will be discovered to help improve the quality of life for millions of individuals affected by viral hepatitis worldwide.
